Family Wellbeing Zone (formerly Sparkbrook Children’s Zone) is an innovative, integrated health and social care partnership supporting women, children, and families across Birmingham. Delivered in partnership between the NHS, South Doc Services, and GreenSquareAccord, we bring together health, social care, and community settings to provide joined-up support that supports Women, Children and Families to live happy, healthy lives.
Our work focuses on prevention and early intervention, addressing the wider social determinants of health and reducing inequalities before they escalate.

Birmingham Health Partners Analysis of Family Wellbeing Zone
We have been working with the Birmingham Health Partners who have been analysing the Family Wellbeing Zone (previously known as Sparkbrook Children’s Zone) and the potential our integrated service holds to cut costs whilst also improving the care available for children in the locality. Have a look at their findings below, or click here for the full article.
We are based in Hall Green and Selly Oak because we recognise that in these areas women, children, and families in these communities often experience poorer health outcomes and greater levels of health inequality.
Through our work with women, children, and families, both in appointments and within the community, we frequently identify wider health and wellbeing needs alongside the reason for their initial engagement with our services. This reinforces the importance of providing holistic, wraparound support that addresses the broader factors affecting health and wellbeing, ensuring families can access the right help at the right time.
To help families achieve the best possible health and wellbeing outcomes, we promote the following advice and support:
- Ensure children receive routine vaccinations when offered
- Avoid exposure to smoking and create smoke-free homes
- Attendance to school or nursery
- Take Healthy Start vitamins (free for eligible under fours in Birmingham).
- Regular physical exercise and an active lifestyle
- Chose healthy foods and sugary snacks and drinks
- Take folic acid and vitamin D when planning a pregnancy
- Access contraception to support informed reproductive health choices
- Manage existing conditions, such as diabetes, with appropriate healthcare support
- Maintain good oral health and attend regular dental check-ups
- Prioritise mental wellbeing and seek support when needed
- Access local health, wellbeing, and early help services to ensure support is available at the right time
